Welcome to our 2017 sale! We have been blessed with an average year for moisture,
delivered in May and early June. Cattle have done very well and the market is letting us
operate at profitable levels. The more people that own and feed Hereford influenced cattle,
the stronger our reputation becomes as their efficiency and quality stand out. Selling hybrid
vigor has become a valuable commodity.
We have improved our corral and watering system as well as revamped our feeding system
and ration.We went retro and fed like we were in the 70’s.We served a triticale (wheat x rye)
silage, cold rolled oats and eventually added whole corn in April. We balanced the ration
with a Purina protein pellet and ground hay. We fed a TMR (total mixed ration) coarsely
ground in a vertical mixer twice a day. That was fed into the new bunkline feeder. The bulls
did not get split off from the heifers and onto feed until late December. We are offering
you a leaner, lighter product that is going to go farther and breed more cows. They were
developed on grass and a bull developer pellet this summer. These cattle are limit fed and
we let the genetics do the heavy lifting.
The bulls have walked miles. They are halter broke. Disposition in the cattle is exceptional.
Dams of the sale bulls are not pampered and they work for us. An udder that does not work
is a ticket out of here. Berry bulls are better bulls and the cows make the difference. Cows
are expected to calve unassisted and calves start themselves. We think before you read
any EPDs those are quite valuable traits. It is not stated in most footnotes but these cattle
are significantly below breed average in birth weight and above in calving ease. Please
take time and come early as 75 pairs are close sale day.
We are delighted to present such a uniform, outstanding set of bulls.We continue with what
is now a highly proven sire in “Pi” (CL 1 Domino 314A) as we call him. He continues to
impress as his first daughters become role model females.We have branded our third set of
calves and we like the results.We offer for the first time a full set of half-brothers by a polled
sire (11X) who offers more growth than we have been showing you and there are several
herd bull prospects. Several calves by AI sires offer an out cross for our regular customers.
All bulls are semen tested and we will provide health papers to go anywhere. Free delivery
on a $4,000 purchase within three hundred miles of the ranch.We cooperate on deliveries.

Janice retired after 27 years of teaching. It is a beautiful thing to have my partner back after
many years of expanding young minds. All our kids living close enough to help is huge. The
herd has increased, the grandkid count is now three. Ben moved to Ft. Collins to teach.
Mom celebrated her 89th birthday and is in town doing well.We are grateful for all the work
we get from Dusty and Sam Buffington.
