Coming Two-Year-Olds
The coming two-year-old bulls were weaned, (with no creep) and preconditioned for 45 days, then turned out on grass.
They were supplemented only during times of limited grazing during the winter with a forage-based, high fiber ration. All
spring and summer they had nothing but grass, be it rye/ryegrass, millet, alfalfa, fescue, or bermuda, until 80 days prior
to the sale. Those offered in the sale not only made the cut after weaning and yearling time, but stood up to the test of
maintaining their body condition on forages. Other than routine de-worming, fly control and free choice minerals, these
bulls foraged their way with absolutely no pampering as they developed. They are rock-solid and we are confident they
will perform in the pasture breeding cows as trouble-free sires should. We prefer to develop our two-year-old sale offering
in this manner as it is more economical over the longer development period and certainly fits a real world commercial
situation. We welcome any questions you might have to this different approach. The genetics are there and we don’t think
you will be disappointed.
LongYearling Bulls (September born)
Due to numerous requests for yearling bulls in the Fall Sale, all September born bulls are now offered in the Fall. These
bulls were fence line weaned on alfalfa and continued to limit graze alfalfa post weaning for several weeks. Late summer
they were started on a high roughage ration consisting largely of corn/sorghum silage, fruit and vegetable by-products,
dried distillers grain, bermuda hay, and corn gluten feed. Off test performance data for these bulls will be available on our
website in late October and on sale day.
Drs. Jeff Nordin and Joel Riley
doing breeding soundness exams.
All Bulls Selling:
1. Were vaccinated at 3-4 months of age for BVD, BRSV,
IBR, PI3, 5-way Lepto and Clostridial diseases. They
have been boostered twice prior to sale date for the
same, plus Pasteurella. They will receive a Lepto-
Vibrio vaccine prior to the sale. They were dewormed
approximately every 90 days post weaning and have
been ear notched and tested negative for PI BVD.
2. WERE NOT CREEP FED at any point. The weaning
weights you see are the result of calves being weaned
off the cow WITHOUT creep feed.
3. Were scanned for ultrasound measurements by
Andy Meadows, DVM, a BIF and AAACUP certified
technician from Wytheville, VA. The measurements are
included in the calculation of the bull’s Carcass EPDs.
4. Passed a complete Breeding Soundness Exam given
by Drs. Jeff Nordin and Joel Riley, both from Saluda,
SC, in September or October 2012.
The Coming Two-Year-olds and the Long
Yearlings performance and ultrasound data
should not be compared between groups,
only within their respective groups.
*
Sim Angus bulls will be tested to determine if they
are homozygous black prior to sale day.

  Long Yearlings Off-Test performance information
will be available on the website and on sale day.
