EPD––Expected Progeny Difference
Prediction of an animal future progeny per formance compared to
progeny of other animals within their respective breed's data-base.
EPDs are not comparable between breeds.
CED––Calving Ease Direct
Expressed as a difference in % of unassis ted births influenced by
calving ease scores and bir th weight. Higher CED indicates
greater calving ease in firt calf heifers.
BW––Birth Weight (lbs.)
Predictor of ability to transmit bir th weight. Negative (-) values
mess less birth weight.
SC––Scrotal Circumference (cm)
Directly related to a bull's fertility and reproductive performance.
Age at puberty and reproductive performance of females is also
related to scrotal EPDS.
WW––Weaning Weight (lbs.)
Reflects pre-weaning growth potential
YW––Yearling Weight (lbs.)
Reflects post weaning g rowth, up to one year of age
Maternal Milk (lbs.)
Predictor of genetic merit for weaning weight due to milk and
mothering ability as expressed through an animal's daughters.
IMF––%Intramuscular Fat
Adj 365-day carcass intramuscular fat (marbling) score based on
ultrasound measurements of five yearling cattle. High IMF score
should produce progeny with higher quality grades.
REA––Ribeye Area
365-day carcass ribeye area measure based on ultrasound meas-ure-
ments of live yearling cattle. Higher REA should produce
progeny with more muscle.
FAT
Adj. 365-day twelfth-rib carcass fat thickness based on ultra-sound
measurements of live yearling cattle. Lower EPDs should
produce progeny with less external fat thickness.

them as a tool in making selections for your program.

• Bulls conditioned on Purina Impact Starter for 21
