Individual Performance Data
You will notice the performance information is updated on the fall yearling bulls
in this year’s sale book. By moving the print date back to November 1, we were
able to get their ADG, yearling weights, scrotal, and hip heights included. Also,
the fall bulls have all been ultrasounded, and their individual ultrasound scan data
is reflected in their Carcass EPDs printed in the sale book. All fall yearling heifers
have also had yearling weights and ultrasound processed and their EPDs reflect
those results.
For the early spring bull calves, we will furnish update sheets on sale day. As
always, we will weigh and measure those bulls on Wednesday before the sale,
and give you average daily gain (ADG) post-weaning, and current frame score. We
will also give you a projected yearling weight (Prj. YW). This will not be an official
yearling weight, and we will not ratio these projected yearling weights. Based on
the last three years, it will be a legitimate estimation of the official yearling weight
they will achieve if they are left here on the wintering program. The Prj. YW will be
calculated by multiplying their ADG times 160 to calculate their post-weaning gain,
and adding that result to their adj. 205-day weight.
This year, all bull and heifer calves were processed for birth and weaning
weights before we went to press. We will have update sheets to reflect their current
EPDs as of sale day. All dams’ records have been updated and are current, as
printed in the sale book. Update sheets will still be supplied for the heifer calves
on sale day, with current weights and frame scores.
For the record, in our performance boxes, BW means actual birth weight with a
scale, but the ratio is figured on adjusted birth weight, computed on a mature cow
equivalent (heifers and young cows’ calves are adjusted up). WW means adjusted
205-
day-weight (adjusted to 205 days of age, and mature dam equivalent). YW
means adjusted 365-day-weight (adj. 205-day-weight plus 160-day post weaning
gain). SC is scrotal circumference, adjusted for age and age of dam.
