Something to Think About!!!
Light birth weight bulls are always in demand and will continue to be used
for heifers breeding projects. We have a variety of “spread” bulls that offer
a low birth weight and still have the performance to wean at the top of the
calf crop. There is a place for these calving ease bulls and there always will
be. However, when we have stressful periods such as extremely cold or
wet conditions these extremely light calves are at a disadvantage. The stam
in between a 60 pound calf and an 80 pound calf, if they should begin to get
sick, is tremendous. We certainly are not trying to make your breeding deci-
sion for you. But keep in mind if used on cows, on average a higher birth
weight bulls offers more performance, sires calves with more stamina at
birth, and normally be purchased at a lower cost.
Thank you for coming!!!
