Friends,
Welcome to our 30th Annual Production Sale.
The drought of 2012 has had a significant impact on nearly everyone. We were fortunate to have good grass carry over from
2011 to get us through.
Weaning weights were somewhat lower, but the cows maintained good condition and bred up well which hopefully is related
to many years of selection for efficiency.
Our bull-development ration has been adjusted to accommodate lower quality forages this year, but the genetic strength for
performance is still evident.
We hope everyone takes time to evaluate and understand the new multi-breed EPD model jointly developed by Red
Angus and Simmental. Please study the explanation on page 4 and evaluate the new EPDs as they correlate with the
corresponding breed rank.
Our offering this year includes a strong group of 18-month-old bulls from Koester Red Angus, as well as a few F1 Red
Angus/Simmental bulls.
Our program continues to emphasize quiet, manageable
dispositions, and we have 13 years of carcass ultrasound
evaluations to identify end-product value
We’re happy to assist our customers with selections or special
needs, and guarantee confidentiality and lowest bid on any sight-
unseen purchases.
Best wishes from all of us at
Leland Red Angus & Koester Red Angus
IMPORTANT CHANGES RELATED TO UNDERSTANDING
NEW MULTI-BREED EPD EVALUATIONS
Red Angus and Simmental EPDs are calculated using the
same multi-breed model. This attempt to identify breed traits
in comparison with another breed is a first for our industry.
Because there are some significant changes in the EPDs and to
adjust to this new concept, producers need to evaluate the EPD
as it correlates with the corresponding breed rank until we can
mentally adjust to these newly appraised values.
