Dear Fellow Cattlemen,
Welcome to Larson Angus Ranch for our 9th
Annual Production Sale. We greatly appre-
ciate the opportunity to serve your bull and
replacement heifer needs.
When we started raising registered cattle in
1988, we chose Angus believing they were the
most trouble-free cattle that had the most to
offer. Our goal was to build a herd that was
truly trouble-free requiring no assistance at
calving, no assistance at nursing, would wean
a high-percentage of the cow’s body weight,
and perform well in the feedlot and on the rail.
We believe we are succeeding.
We have worked very hard to breed for moderate birth weight cattle that perform and grade well in the
feedlot, while keeping the cowherd moderate in mature size with great udder quality. We started ultra-
sounding and collecting carcass data in 1996. Using these tools we have developed cattle that have
consistently garnered premiums. Only about 28% of the calves born here make the cut for breeding stock,
based on cow functionality, production, and carcass merit. Everything else we feed out ourselves and
harvest through USPB and receive carcass data back. Our 2012 home-raised cattle that were harvested
graded 99.1% Choice or Higher, 93.1% CAB Acceptance, and 44.8% Prime, earning an average premium
per head of $129.24. The cattle that we delivered to National, which included purchased cattle from bull
customers, along with our own home raised calves graded 28% Prime, 98% Choice or Higher, and 55%
CAB or Higher; earning a premium of $111.02, per head over the cash market.
Right now is a great time to be in the beef industry with top prices being paid for Quality Angus Genet-
ics. The U.S. provides 85% of the worlds high quality beef, so don’t sit on the sideline and only produce
a commodity product when we have the opportunity to raise something worth much more and garner
excellent premiums for that product. All the cattle in the sale have been tested for AM, NH, CA, or have
no history in their ancestry. They have been PI tested free, wormed, vaccinated, and fertility tested. The
bulls have been developed on a high-roughage ration and turned out in a pasture to stay sound and be
range ready bulls that will hold their condition better during breeding season. The bulls are tested for per-
formance and developed for longevity. If we can answer any questions or help in any way, please don’t
hesitate to give us a call.
