Here is a grand daughter of the JF Blackbird Lady 298 which always has been a con-
sistent producer. 127Z is a well balanced female that is complete. This heifer is sleek
fronted, smooth in her shoulder plus just verywell designed. The brother to Foreman,
Pride is doing a superb job. Look up this one sale day. This lot is a brood cow in the
making . We selected 127z’s grandam from Janssen’s simangus program and she has
done well with producing practical, well balanced, and clean fronted offspring. We
have shown her around with some success at IA state fair she stood 3 in a class of 13
and most recently was selected reserve purebred calf champ in the Simmental show
at the Clay County Fair.

Fall 2012 EPDS on a NEW BASE
The Fall 2012 ASA Genetic Evaluation marks the first time major breeds have expressed their EPDs on a common base (i.e., the same scale). The
common base was a natural evolution for the RAAA/ASA genetic evaluation partnership. Though forming a common base will initially lead to
some confusion, the boards of both organizations unanimously agreed that it was a positive step for the beef industry — a step that allows
producers to directly compare genetic predictions from the largest multi-breed database in the world.
As with any progress, there is change. Breeders and commercial producers will need to adjust to the new base. Much like converting from Fahren-
heit to Celsius, it may be a struggle at first; however, over time we will all growaccustomed to the new scale. For example look at the average EPDs
of purebreds shown in this table.
The change to the base does not change the evaluation of animals;it just changes themagnitude of the EPD. It has the same impact on all animals.
Be sure to use the new percentile tables to develop a “feel” for the new EPD base.
Steel Miss is a moderate framed female that is wide based, deep ribbed, and stout
made thoughout. This late March lady is great haired and will be a competitive show
prospect. Themost important factor that she will be a great cowafter the fun is done
and will be productive bread winner. Another factor is her dam that we purchased
from Ratcliff is a good one. We are again proud to be apart of the Janssen Farms
Chosen Few sale and Miss Steel 188z is one that will make a great breeding piece.
Steeped with long standing genetics like Steel Force, Trademark, and fortified with
the longevity and predictability of Larson’s G3 cow she is sure to go on and produce
calves that have tons of function, and style.
