Welcome one and all to our 13th annual bull sale! Boy I thought last year that 2011 had been something else but
I think that 2012 definitely overshadowed it by quite a distance in my opinion. When you look at the fires that hit
our area and all the damage that was done to the range and the loss of property it was astronomical. To top that off
the drought reached up from south of us to take a good hold on us and do quite a bit of damage. We had a very short
hay crop and our grass held on but we definitely grazed
our pastures too short. We would turn cows in a pasture
and when we moved them out we would pull in with our
haying equipment and put up what was left for the winter
feed. I hope that we receive more moisture this year but
even if we do chances are we still won’t be out of the
woods when it comes to having enough moisture and all
the damage that was done in 2012 from being short. Well
we will hope for the best and plan for the worst.
The old axiom “the more things change the more
they stay the same” could sure apply to ranchers. We
need to keep a tight rein on our expenses while trying
to optimizing our outputs while minimizing our inputs.
Boy that sure sounds like robbing Peter to pay Paul.
We need to keep on seeking efficiencies in our
operations. One of the easiest to implement in cattle production is the use of crossbreeding and what it brings to the
table. It is well documented the advantages of complementary crossbreeding has on set of feeder calves but probably
the most beneficial achievement gained by crossbreeding is in the crossbred female and what she brings to the table.
25% more productive in her life time and a longer life span with fewer problems are just several bonuses that come
virtually free just by utilizing a 2 or 3 breed rotation in your cowherd. For these reasons we offer two complementary
breeds that work well together to come as close to hitting the optimum target as possible. Red Angus for carcass
quality, fleshing ability and maternal. Limousin for carcass yield, leanness and do ability. These 2 breeds are as close
to optimum as you will find in a complementary crossbreeding program.
Another area that we are very critical about is disposition. Easily put we don’t tolerate anything less than a quiet,
easy handling animal. We have selected for this for generations and we believe that this is a trait that has very little
wiggle room. Like the old saying “bad is bad” and we won’t put up with a poor temperament or nervous cattle.
We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or would like more information on our cattle or any-
thing in the sale offering. We look forward to seeing you on sale day or before. Thanks for your interest and don’t
hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.
