Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Brown’s Red &
Black Bull Sale at the White’s. Yes, this
is a new venture for us to go the extra
mile into western Oklahoma to have our
March bull sale. This has been in the
planning stages for over three years.
Our goal was to start a March sale but
I didn’t have room to develop the bulls
in Throckmorton because of all the
spring born bulls we have there. Benji
and Lori White, B&L Red Angus, in Put-
nam, OK helped us solve that problem
with the use of their facilities, which
they had been using for years to devel-
op commercial heifers. They joined our
Coop Team several years ago as they
were building a superior herd of regis-
tered Red Angus cattle and wow, have
they done an excellent job of building
a great program. They have been in the
customer service business for many
years raising commercial cattle along
with developing and AI breeding large
groups of commercial heifers. It was a
great fit because they had a good facili-
ty and the equipment to develop grow-
ing cattle. Plus we share so many of the
same philosophies; testing cattle for
performance and efficiency while de-
veloping them on a high roughage diet
and with exercise for enhanced longev-
ity and productivity.
During this whole planning and
development stage we decided to put in
a GrowSafe feed efficiency testing cen-
ter at our headquarters in Throckmor-
ton, TX. Benji & Lori saw that cutting
edge technology and put the same sys-
tem in here at their place and doubled
the size of their development capaci-
ty. It has worked out to be an excellent
situation, because we can send our fall
born weaned bulls to Putnam, OK in
June to test and develop the bulls at this
location and grow them the entire time
until the sale in March. They are avail-
able to look at about anytime. Just give
us a call to let us know you are coming.
Selling seedstock bulls is what
our family has specialized in for over
123 years and five generations. I have
worked at every one of our auction sales
since our first one in 1974. Let me assure
you, the same guarantees that we have
been selling our bulls with for decades
are the same guarantees that these bulls
sell with. We have sold bulls into Okla-
homa for years, but this is our first time
to have a bull sale here. Let me make
sure everyone understands. Our Octo-
ber sale that we have had for 43 years
is where we sell our bulls that are born
December through April. This March
sale is for age advantage bulls that will
be turning two from August through
November. They were bred with this
sale in mind and with the help of our
outstanding Coop Team along with the
B&L Team. We have designed these ge-
netics and their development precisely
for this sale.
These are age advantage bulls
that will turn two starting in August.
The industry, on the other hand, has
steadily moved toward younger and
younger bulls. We question why peo-
ple would send a boy out to do a man’s
work. Especially an out-of-shape, over-
ly corn-fed boy who will melt like butter
in the microwave when you need him
to be working. We are confident that
our age advantage bulls will get more
cows pregnant and pregnant earlier
in the breeding season. Our bulls also
last longer and therefore produce more
calves in their lifetime when they are
developed properly on a well balanced,
high forage diet. Our bulls are devel-
oped at a more natural pace, on a diet
that enhances rumen function, as well
as the development of their feet, joints,
tendons, ligaments and muscle. This
allows you to turn out a more mature,
