different first number & their bulls are in numerical order.
DOB:
Date of birth.
Birth Wt:
The actual birth weight as reported by the owner.
Current Wt:
The 140-test station weight of the bull as of Mar 21
st
ADG:
Average daily gain of the bull on the 140-day test.
ADG Ratio:
A % comparison of how that animal gained versus the breed
average at the SCVBT. A ratio of 100% is average.
WDA:
Weight per day of age. What the bull has gained on average each
day since birth.
WDA Ratio:
A % comparison of the individual to the breed on test at the SCVBT
Sale Ratio:
A composite of how the bull performed at the SCVBT within his
breed, 75% of ADG ratio, 25% of WDA ratio.
Hip Height:
The height at the hip of the bull on
March
25
t
h
Frame Score:
A score given based on hip height and age.
Scrotal:
The measurement of circumference of the scrotum.
EPD:
Expected Progeny Difference
, is the prediction of how future progeny of
each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other
animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure
for the trait, plus or minus.
CED/CE:
Calving Ease Direct,
expressed as percentage of unassisted births,
a
higher value indicates greater calving ease in first-calf heifers
.
It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire's calves will
be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
BW:
Birth Weight,
expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to
transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
WW:
Weaning Weight
, expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to
transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
YW:
Yearling Weight,
expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to
transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
CEM/MCE:
Calving Ease Maternal
, is expressed as a difference in percentage of
unassisted births with a
higher value indicating greater calving ease
in first-calf daughters
. It predicts the average ease with which a sire's
daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of
other sires.
Milk:
Maternal Milk,
is a predictor of a sire's genetic merit for milk and
mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters
of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf's weaning weight
attributed to milk and mothering ability.
CW:
Carcass Weight,
expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the differences in
hot carcass wt of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Marb
:
Marbling,
expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling
score of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires
.
RE/REA:
Ribeye Area,
expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the
difference in ribeye area of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of
other sires.
Fat/BF:
Fat Thickness,
expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in
external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th
and 13th ribs) of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
$W:
Weaned Calf Value
- An index value expressed in dollars per head, is
the expected average difference in future progeny performance for
preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments
associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth,
maternal milk and mature cow size.
$F:
Feedlot Value
- an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the
expected average difference in future progeny performance for
postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires.
$G:
Grid Value
- an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected
average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit
compared to progeny of other sires.
$B:
Beef Value
- an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the
expected average difference in future progeny performance for
post-weaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.
Stay:
Stayability
- Predicts the probability that a bull’s daughters will remain in
the herd until at least 6 years of age.
API:
All-Purpose Index
- Evaulates sires for use on the entire cow herd with the
portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and
the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
TI:
Terminal Index
- evaluates sires for use on mature cows with all of the
offspring put on feed and sold grade and yeild
CHB$
:
Certified Hereford Beef Index -
A terminal sire index that is built on a
production system where Hereford bulls sire calves for the CHB market
CEZ$:
Calving Ease Index
- Assumes a bull will only be mated to heifers, not
cows. The potential profitability of the sire is measured by live calves at
birth. Moderate mature size is also emphasized, but performance is not
a priority.
Terms of Sale
Terms of this sale are cash or check. Each bull will be sold to the highest
bidder. The auctioneer will settle any disputes as to bids. The buyer must
pay for bulls before being released. Each bull will be at the buyer’s risk as
soon as they are sold, but will be cared for by management (St. Croix
Valley Bull Test) (SCVBT) for a reasonable time until they are loaded.
SCVBT assumes no liability for injury, sickness or death during transport
after the sale or any other time there after. THE SALE OF EACH BULL
CONSTITUTES A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE BUYER AND SELLER
AND EXPRESSLY EXCLUDES THE SCVBT FROM LIABILITY,
CONTRACTUAL OR OTHERWISE, TO THE SELLER OR BUYER.
Registration:
Certificates will be transferred to the buyer at the seller’s expense.
SCVBT Guarantee:
All bulls are guaranteed breeders by the seller if properly managed. Only
the bulls that have been examined for breeding soundness and classified
as satisfactory potential breeders by a staff veterinarian are eligible for
sale. Any bull appearing structurally or reproductively unsound in the
opinion of the staff veterinarian and the bull test board of directors will not
be sold.
The SCVBT assumes no liability for any bull sold that subsequently fails to
have breeding capabilities. The sale constitutes a contract and agreement
between buyer and seller. Non-breeder options are spelled out later in this
document.
The seller assumes no liability for injury, sickness, or death of the bull(s)
during transport after the sale or anytime thereafter. In the event a bull is
a non-breeder because of factors other than injury, sickness, or death, the
seller must be notified in writing within 6 months of the sale day of that
fact. A vet certificate and prognosis must accompany that written
notification. A copy of the buyer’s letter and vet’s certification and
prognosis must be sent to the SCVBT President.
A yearling bull is considered a breeder if he is at least 15 months old at
the time of use, and is exposed to no more than 15 cows, and settles at
least ½ of those females within a 60-75 day period.
The guarantee is void if the bull has lost weight from the time of sale to the
time of the complaint. Non-breeder options are as follows:
A. Seller has 6 months from the time of written notice receipt to prove the
bull is a breeder. If the bull is proven as a breeder by the seller’s vet
he can return the bull to the buyer. Trucking will be at buyer’s expense.
B. Seller may replace the purchased bull with one of comparable quality
and performance. Acceptance by the buyer is mandatory.
Trucking is at the buyer’s expense.
C. Seller may refund full purchase price for the non-breeder if approved
by the buyer. Trucking of the non-breeder is at the buyer’s expense.
D. If the bull is proven a non-breeder after the seller exercises option A,
then option B or C can be exercised at the buyer’s choice.
Options A,B,C, D, are considered full and satisfactory settlement. The
buyer and seller may agree on other terms. All disputes about breeding
are between the buyer and seller. SCVBT is not responsible for the
settlement of these disputes.
