The recent fires have been a devastation across Kansas, Oklahoma, and the heart of
Texas. The national media hasn’t covered it, but all you need to do is go to the sale
barn with Jeff Bourquin and you see that our kind of people are rising up. At the
Woodward sale barn last week, one heifer was resold multiple times to bring $92,000
for fire victims. Many other sale barns have done the same thing. As you look on
social media, you can’t help but feel pride as people in our industry across the nation
rise up and support one another. The trucks bringing hay to the fire ridden areas have
made grown men cry. We participate in the greatest industry in the world, with people
who stand tall and proud. We all depend on one another. We’ve been selling bulls out
here for the last ten years, we are going to keep doing all we can to help you. The
hearts and work ethic in this part of the country are as big as Texas, and we know
that it will be rebuilt, restocked, and restored.
We have a heck of a set of bulls this year! One of the great things about our sale is
that we sell three breeds, so you have plenty of different options when it comes to
selecting the bull or bulls that fit your program.
We are always looking or trying to breed the next great herd sire. We take a lot of
pride in our bull battery, and we really have a lot of fun promoting them. It’s really
rewarding. I talked to Bourquin the other day after he got a text from a RA Bentley,
who is a great customer. He asked, “Do you have copies of what lot 209 and 210 are?
These calves are incredible!”
Jeff buys a lot of our bull customers’ feeder cattle, and we both help sell a bunch
of the heifers sired by these bulls. They are easy to sell. Even though there are
differences between the breeds, our bulls sire cattle that have a lot of similarities.
Powerful, deep bodied, easy doing cattle with plenty of performance is what we all
want. With Griswold Cattle, we want ours to do all that with eye-catching correctness
and balance, and that’s what makes us different.
Craig and his crew had a heck of a run in Denver again, and our champion pen of
bulls will sell in this sale. Thanks to a heck of a crew!
This sale is a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun too. We love the cattle business.
It’s all we know, and we think it’s a great way to raise a family. The friends and
acquaintances are second to none.
